

A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the age of 81. He was one of a kind and quite the character, a jokester, and loved by all who knew him. He was most recently owner of Carroll Shaffer Millworks, and previously co-owner of B&B Manufacturing. He also worked for Louisiana Creamery and Borden’s Dairy for 15 years. He was a member of Comite Baptist Church. He was a 1953 graduate of Central High School where he played football. He loved fishing, hunting, and his vegetable garden. He was an LSU football and basketball season ticket holder for many years. One of his greatest joys was catching crabs on “Po’ Ole Daddy’s Yacht” and boiling his catch for friends and family. He is survived by his son, Ricky Shaffer and girlfriend, Kathleen Lobbell. Three daughters, Sherri Hill and husband Ted, Susan Shaffer, and Laurie McGraw and husband Virgil. Sister, Katherine Foster; brother, Ronnie Shaffer and wife Wanda; former wife, Dorothy C. Shaffer. 8 grandchildren, Misty Guidroz, Cory Hill, Shellye Watson, Morgan Lewis, Rachel Shaffer, Michaelyn Brabham, Whitney Lewis, and Emily Shaffer; 13 great grandchildren, Hunter, Grant, Kate, Olivia, Cole, Beau, Braylen, Bryson, Mason, Brody, Reid, Berkley, and Luke; and close friends, Rocky and Joanie Saxon. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Shaffer; parents, Jesse and Edith Shaffer; and brother, Jesse “Buddy” Shaffer. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 10 AM until funeral service at 2 PM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Cory Hill, Jesse Shaffer, Charles Shaffer, Terry Hester, Randy Foster, and Rocky Saxon. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Hemba and Ed Noble.
