Cassandra Whitty

Cassandra Whitty, “The Lady in Red”, was born on January 19, 1956 to Roosevelt Whitty, Sr. and Eva Jewell Whitty in Monroe, Louisiana. Cassandra was an active child who became an active and community-oriented adult. In addition to demonstrating academic excellence, “San”, as she was called by family members and close friends, was involved in a variety of extracurricular school organizations and activities. While attending Carroll High School, Cassandra was a high-stepping majorette. On graduating from Carroll, Cassandra continued to serve as the announcer for the school’s halftime shows and later was an aggressive and productive member of their Parent/Teacher organization. She was baptized into the Church of Christ in Monroe, LA. Since moving to Baton Rouge, LA., she has served as an active member of Grace and Compassion Church. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Cassandra lavished attention on her growing family and made sure to be a steadfast presence in their daily lives and for their school and social activities. She especially enjoyed traveling throughout her lifetime. After retiring from State Farm Insurance Company, she embarked on several passenger train trips throughout the United States, cruises throughout Mexico and the Caribbean, and visits to England and France. Cassandra experienced many challenges, none of which deterred her resolve to show love for her family and community. Instead of shrinking into the background, she valiantly came forth and announced her

challenges to the public as a means of encouraging others. As such, she served on the board of the Open Heart Clinic (HAART), and was a frequent speaker on the topic of HIV/AIDs prevention and education. Her most recent challenge was also met with her notable resolve to convey important information to friends and family members about the need for early cancer screening and treatment. The “Lady in Red” transitioned to her heavenly home on July 26, 2026 in her own home and on her own terms. Forever a Carroll Bulldog, Cassandra attended her 50 year class reunion one week before her Heavenly Rest began. She was preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt Whitty, Sr., sisters, Deborah Whitty Vercher and Cynthia Denise Johnson, several beloved grandparents, aunts (including one big sister/aunt, Annie Lee Whitty Bass), and uncles, and a nephew, Brady Tysinger. She leaves to mourn her passing but rejoice in her transition to heavenly peace and life without pain: her

only child, John Antoine Ladell Whitty, Baton Rouge, LA; Mother, Eva Jewell Whitty, Monroe, LA; Antoine’s Father, John Webb, Monroe, LA; Granddaughters, Jessica Danielle Lela Whitty, Jazmyn Ayana Sampson-Whitty, and Jade Gabriella Sampson-Whitty, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Grandson, Jordan Antoine J’Colby Brumfield, Baton Rouge, LA; her most cherished Great-granddaughters, Ja’Lea Da’Lani Whitty and Naomi Amora Sampson-White and Daughter-in Law, Angela Sampson, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Siblings, Shirley (Larry) Hawkins, Baton Rouge, LA; Daniel Louis Kennedy, Monroe, LA; Gustavia Evans, Atlanta, GA; Veronica (Armond) Lewis, Monroe, LA; Rosalind (Billy) Whitty Sibley, Baton Rouge, LA; Roosevelt (Doris) Whitty, Jr., Monroe, LA; Nettie (Elgin) Whitty LaStrape, Beaumont, TX; Deidre Butler, Monroe, LA; Helen (Robert) Whitty Boyd, Monroe, LA; Constance Judith Whitty, Detroit, MI; Nancy (Santana) Payne Smith, Bessemer, AL; Courtney (Nicole) Whitty Long, and Jeffery Richard Whitty both of Detroit, MI; Wanda Hampton, Monroe, LA; a wealth of nieces and nephews, several Godchildren, and a host of other relatives, beloved friends and loved ones too numerous to be named. You know who you are and that SHE LOVED YOU! Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 9am until 10am at Grace and Compassion Church, 6045 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70805. A Celebration of Cassandra's Life will begin at 10am. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
