

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Catherine DeBenedetto Spitale passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the age of 93. She was a native of Port Allen, LA, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Catherine was Valedictorian at both Brusly High School and Louisiana State University’s graduations. She was a hands-on student in all affairs whether it was at school, church, or in everyday life. After 27+ years of service, Catherine retired from the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board. During her tenure, she was a teacher for 25 years, then she became principal, and finished out her career as a valued member of the School Board. She was loved and respected by her family, friends, and associates. Catherine took pride in her beautiful rose garden and vegetable garden, which she tended to almost daily. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and loved her Bible studies. She also enjoyed bowling, and traveling. Catherine took pleasure in helping others and praying for those in need. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Salpietra, and husband, Ronald; grandchildren, Chase Salpietra and wife, Lindsey, and Cody Salpietra and wife, Courtney; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Wesley, Caysie, and Cade Salpietra; and a host of other family members. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Nick Spitale; parents, Rocco DeBenedetto, Sr. and Camella Corrente DeBenedetto; brothers, Frank, Charlie, George, Russell, Nick, Pete, Joe, Rocco, Jr. and Anthony; and sisters, Anne and Mary. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 9am until the funeral service at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
