
Celia Jean Brown was born Feb. 4, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, to then-U.S. Army Capt. Cyrus J. "C.J." Brown Jr. and Jean Bergin Brown. Celia graduated high school at Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge and attended LSU for two years. She then joined VISTA, and moved to New Haven, Conn., in 1969, beginning a lifetime career in community and social services. Celia graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, was a prominent figure in the New Haven social services community and helped improve the lives of the impoverished and the handicapped. Predeceased by brothers, Michael and John; and her parents, she is survived by brothers, Cyrus, David, Robert, Tom and their families, Celia was a 12-year cancer survivor. She died in her Woodbridge, Conn., home of natural causes. She was 64. A memorial service was held Sunday afternoon in New Haven and a second memorial service will take place at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Saturday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
