

Charles H. Brewer was born April 19, 1924 in Cascilla, MS and passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 1, 2017 at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, LA. He was a resident at the Southeast Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Jackson, LA. He lived in New Orleans most of his childhood graduating from Alcee Fortier High School. Following graduation he moved to Baton Rouge and enrolled at LSU until he enlisted in the Navy, where he served his country in WWII as a gunnery instructor. He was an active member of Istrouma Baptist Church until his declining health prevented his attending.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice Hendry Brewer, his mother Ruth Lance Brewer Murray, biological father Veto McKinley Brewer and step-father John Murray, siblings; Katherine B. Auster, Opal B. Myers and Lucille B. Versaw, grandson Jeremy Patel, great-granddaughter Thea White, and a dearly loved nephew USCG RADM Paul E. Versaw.
He is survived by three daughters; Ruth B. (“Cookie”) and Ronald White of St. Francisville and their children Melissa of Baton Rouge and Brad and wife Liz of Lubbock, TX. Also Linda B. and Kip Bourgeois of Baton Rouge and their children Amanda and husband Blake of Denver, CO and Micah and wife Jaime and their children Brayden and Easton of BR, and Judith B. Patel of New York. He retired from Exxon after working in the petroleum products lab for many years.
He is survived by his two brothers, Arnold and Roy Veto Brewer, both living in Ohio, Frank Auster and Pam Auster Briggs and Malcolm Versaw.
Family and Friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home located at 9595 Florida Blvd on Tuesdays, September 5, 2017 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Funeral Service at 2:00pm, burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate your time to visit someone in a nursing home who would enjoy having company.
