A building contractor, he died at 4:40 a.m.Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 77 and a native and resident of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A loving brother-in-law, uncle and friend, he will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation atSt.Jude the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m.to 11 a.m., with recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m.Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.Saturday, with the Rev. David Allen, celebrant. Interment inRoselawnCemetery. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Joyce D. Cook and Sybil D. Decuir; brothers-in-law, Wilbert Warren Decuir Sr. and his wife, Eunice, and Thomas B. Darensbourg Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Joan Decuir Cook; parents, John F. Sr. and Melicie R. Cook; three sisters, Mary Rose Pourciau, Hilda C. Johnson and Frances C. Walker; and five brothers, Bertrand, John F. Jr., William S., Melvin A. Sr. and Bertell A. Cook Sr. Pallbearers will be Charles E. Cook, John A. Cook, Melvin A. Cook Jr., Wilbert Warren Decuir Jr., Lyndon D. Darensbourg, John Daniel Pourciau, Lester Pourciau and Eric L. Roquemore. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas B. Darensbourg Sr., Ulysses Davis, Wilbert Warren Decuir Sr., Dale Decuir, Larry McGehee, Russell Mayfield, Anthony E. Rozier, Aubrey Ricard, Eurich Ricard and the members of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was a 1946 graduate ofMcKinleyHigh Schooland a 1950 graduate of Southern University. He was a member of Third Degree Knights of St. Peter Claver, St. Agnes Council No. 12, member ofSt.Jude theApostleChurchand a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. His greatest pride was the fruits of his construction labor. He loved cooking, cultivating plants, and animals, especially cats. Rabenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
