Charles Rupert Holloway was welcomed into God’s loving care while peacefully sleeping at his home in Baton Rouge on October 25, 2024. He was born in Amite, LA on June 20, 1924. Being raised in the country, he loved his horse “Spot”, milked cows, helped with the chickens and started his love of fishing in the creek near his home.
Charles graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia in 1941, where he excelled as half-back and captain of the football team and also participated in volleyball. He continued his education at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He enlisted into the U.S. Naval Air Force in 1943 and served as a fighter pilot in WWII, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. After being honorably discharged in1946, he returned to LSU and completed his Business Administration degree in 1947. There, he met the love of his life, Analynn Lorena Thigpen, who he married in 1948.
He then joined the family business, Holloway Companies, engaged primarily in the sand and gravel business. They expanded the company into concrete, a railroad, and truck sales.
Charles was a member of the LA Aggregate and Ready Mix Concrete Association, as well as its branch, Associated General Contractors of LA.
Together, Charles and Analynn traveled extensively, creating cherished memories across the globe. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the BUMS (Better Understanding of Marine Species), Charity Ball Association Krewe of Achillis, Harlequins Dance Club, and the Bocage Racquet Club. He enjoyed playing cards, photography, being a grill and smoke master, and loved his dogs and practical jokes.
Charles was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 72 years, Analynn Thigpen Holloway; parents Herman Hamric Holloway, Sr. and Eva Pickens Holloway; brother, Herman Hamric Holloway, Jr. (Wilma); sister, Catherine Holloway Johnson (Stuart); granddaughter, Amanda Pennison Luneau; and great-granddaughter, Julianna Rae Alombro.
He is survived by his three daughters: Anne Lynne Holloway Pennison (Gary) of Maurepas, LA; Loren Eve Holloway of Round Rock, TX; and Lisa Holloway Sober (Michael) of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren: Joey Pennison, Charles Pennison (Amy), Catherine Alombro (Matthew), Analynn Sober-DuPre (Johnny), Hannah Sober, and Sarah Sober Bitten (Reid); great-grandchildren: Deanna and Analena Luneau, Trey and Abby Pennison, and Alex, Anna, and Andrea Alombro.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to his long time, loving, and compassionate caregivers, Italy Paul, Russia Paul, and Alice Aliese. Thanks also Kathleen White and the team from Clarity Hospice.
Pallbearers will be Joey Pennison, Charles Pennison, Matthew Alombro, Johnny Dupre, Reid Bitten, and Hannah Sober. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Field, Walker Johnson, Bill Pickens, and John Pickens.
Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street in Baton Rouge on November 8 at 9:30 a.m., with services at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Louisiana Family Forum or to Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge.
