Born in New Orleans, LA, Les was the son of Ruth Brunig Klotz and Charles Lester Klotz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Klotz; and his beloved wife of more than 40 years, Patricia Goudeau Klotz.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Charles Lester Klotz III (Sherrie) Michael Klotz (Mary) Katherine Weaver (Todd) Philip Messina (Brenda) Christopher Messina (Robin). He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Les graduated from John McDonogh High School and later earned his Masters degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, where he began preparing for a lifelong career in education and public service.
Les began his career as a high school teacher and coach in the New Orleans area before relocating to Baton Rouge. He served as Superintendent of Louisiana Special Schools and Superintendent of the City of Baker School System. His commitment to education and public service left a lasting impact on countless students, educators, and families.
Outside of his career, he loved drag racing at State Capital Raceway in Erwinville, Louisiana. He was known for his lifelong affection for Basset Hounds (Snoopy, Peaches, and Tootsie)
Les was a faithful parishioner and longtime supporter of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. His unwavering faith in God, generous spirit, and gratitude for life’s blessings served as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Les’s life on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.
