Charles Ray "Chuck" Landry Sr. graced the presence on this earth with the company of his identical twin, Charles Roy, on May 25, 1925. Ray passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, to be with his Savior. He lived an extraordinary life of 83 years and lived every moment to the fullest. He never met a stranger. He had a gift of making everyone feel special and found some good in everyone. His humor and storytelling were legendary as he presided over large family gatherings. Born in Baton Rouge, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and had to eat bananas to meet the weight requirement. After the war, he and his wife, Margaret, resided in Michigan. In 1955, they moved back to Baton Rouge, where they reared a family of six girls and his long awaited son, Chuck. He was a loving husband and dedicated father who frequently stated that he would not trade his family for all the money in the world. He truly thought he had the most wonderful family in the world. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Margaret; a daughter, Sally (Folks); mother, Magdalene Landry, who lived to be 104; father, Joseph Landry; and twin brother, Roy. He is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Jeanne and Don Bercegeay, Mary and Jerry Dunaway, Sherry and Tommy Donovan, Roxie and Ronnie Andrus, Dawn and O.V. Smith; son, Charles R. Landry II; three brothers, Earl, Carl and George Landry; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; special friend, Nettie Holton; and faithful companions, Sheba and Muffin. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We will love and miss you forever and a day, Dad. Save the last dance for us.
