
Charles Albert Merrill, 89, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born in Lindsay on Sept. 16, 1919. He attended LSU and was retired from Exxon Chemical Co. with 36 years of service. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of American Legion Nicholson Post 38. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He was a loving father and is survived by his five children, Dennis Charles Merrill and domestic partner Byron Roberts, Craig Joseph Merrill and wife Sandy, Glenn Patrick Merrill, Jan Lee Merrill and fiancée Sandra Porter, and Lisa Merrill Thompson and husband George; two grandchildren, George Charles Thompson and Sarah Marie Thompson; former wife, Marie Accardo Merrill; sister, Nannette Hess; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Hurd and AnnaBelle Miller Merrill; sister, Dorothy Kinchen; and infant brother, Hurd. Thanks to A.J. and Mildred Smith and family for their years of friendship to Mr. Charles. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
