
Charles Donald Nunn, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 22, 2015 at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on May 14, 1920 in Bells, Tennessee, and came to Baton Rouge in October of 1951. Charles graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after being honorably discharged from the Navy where he served as Chief Petty Officer on the staff of the 7th Amphibious Forces in the Southwest Pacific in World War II. Charles and wife, Martha were founding parents of the Baton Rouge Cerebral Palsy Center, now known as the McMains Children's Developmental Center (MCDC) and a founding supporter of the Bal de Noel for The Charity Ball Association of Baton Rouge. Charles was invited to join membership of the Sons of the American Revolution and was an active member for many years where he enjoyed sponsoring the essay contest for high school seniors.Known for designing some of the finest homes and businesses in the area, Charles owned and operated his own design firm; Charles Nunn Interiors. He was instrumental in acquiring the accreditation for the Interior Design Program at LSU and served as President of AID, he was named a fellow of ASID and was honored as a Life Member of the American Society of Interior Designers. He served three terms as President of the South Central Region. He has been a member of University United Methodist Church for over 50 years and cherished his faith, his family, and his friends greatly. Charles was known for his big smile, warm heart and generous spirit. He was affectionately known as "Pop" to his grandchildren and loved visiting them in Dallas and spending time on the coast, but always returned home to Baton Rouge. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Curdice Nunn of the Brookwood Community, Brookshire, Texas and daughter, Martha Cumalee Nunn Haines and her husband Edward T. (Terry) Haines, Jr.; three grandchildren, Terrell Haines, III, David Clayton Haines, and Mary Pat Haines- all of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Floyd and Ken Harvey and niece, Tera Madden and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Mobley Nunn; parents, Clayton Mauldin and Tera Goff Nunn; sister, Doris Nunn; and brother-in-law, S. Floyd Harvey, Jr. Graveside burial service will be at Roselawn Cemetery Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 am.
