
Charles Robert "Chuck" Moran Jr., a resident and native of Baton Rouge, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Hospice of Baton Rouge after a lengthy illness with Parkinson's disease. He was 88. He was a retired real estate broker and Realtor. Visitation on Saturday March 20, from 12:30 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert H. Berggreen celebrant, homily by Deacon McBurnett Smith. Interment will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery on Monday, March 22, at 10 a.m., under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Mr. Moran was a veteran of the Army as a staff sergeant where he received an EAME campaign medal with two bronze stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. A 1948 graduate of Southern University and A&M College, he was inducted as a member of the Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Beta Iota Lambda Chapter and the Southern University Alumni Association. In 1973, he was appointed to the City-Parish Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a former member of Capital Transportation Corp. (1982-1985) and acting general manager during that time; a member of Baton Rouge Association for Community Action Inc.; a founding member of Krewe of Camelot (debutante organization); and Baton Rouge Recreation and Parks Commission (BREC). Mr. Moran entered the world of work as a member of the U.S. Postal Service where he served for several years. Thereafter, he became consecutively a real estate agent, real estate manager and real estate broker. He, and members of Guidry-Kennedy Agency, were among the first businesses instrumental in getting VA and FHA loans approved for East Baton Rouge minorities. His agency promoted most of Mayfair Park, Lincoln Heights, Southern Heights, Crestworth, Park Vista and was instrumental in building homes in many other subdivisions. Mr. Moran was employed by Sears in major sales and as a manager of Sears' Outlet Store. After retiring from Sears, he developed his own real estate business with four agents. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Martin Moran; three daughters, Dale M. Marioneaux and husband Hubert, of Baton Rouge, Debra M. Dickens, of Houston and Denise A. Moran, of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Catherine Martin Broussard; brother, James Walker Moran, of Baton Rouge; nephews and nieces, McBurnett, Gregory and Tyrone Smith, David and Paul Dabon, Edward Robinson, James, Jude and Juanita Moran, Charles, Michael and Kevin Broussard, Geraldine B. Baloney and Veronica Broussard; and grandchildren, Courtney M. Bell, Lindsey A. and Marley A. Dickens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. and Gertrude W. Moran; sisters, Lucille M Robinson, Gertrude M. Smith and Mabel M. Dabon; and nephew, Tony Robinson. Pallbearers will be Hubert Marioneaux, Gerard H. Payne, Charles Broussard, George Darren Myer and Roderick Martin. Honorary pallbearers ar James W. Moran, McBurnett Smith, Alex Palmer, Dana Carpenter, Joseph Watson, Edward Wright and Carl White.
