Chester Edward Oakley, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, formerly of Hammond, was suddenly and tragically taken from us too soon on May 18th, 2014. He was a graduate of Hammond High School. He worked in management for Piccadilly Cafeterias for many years until he moved on to LSU, where he retired after over 25 years of dedicated service. He never met a stranger he didn't like. He is preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Bennett Oakley, Ora Lorenzo Oakley, his daughter, Wendy Oakley, one sister, Grace Boulware, and his son-in-law, Chris Varnedoe. He is survived by one loving daughter, Kim Oakley Varnedoe, her mother Billie Nolene Pylate, three grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Varnedoe and Julia Smith, two sisters, Florene Blackwell and Sylvia Mattos and her son Jeff Trimm, as well as many loving relatives and close friends. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 24th at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Visitation is at 1:00 pm with the service starting at 2:00 pm.
