Christine Ferguson

Christine Ferguson was born Sunday, August 7, 1921 in Farmerville, LA and gracefully left this earth on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 4:50 pm. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and was 95.

Christine spent her early years in Farmerville attending school and helping with the family farm. During WWII she relocated to Florida to be with her sister Vivian. There she worked at the Tyndall Air Force Base Post Exchange in Panama City and at Buckingham Army Airfield Post Exchange in Fort Myers. From Florida she moved to New Orleans to be with her father and sisters Willie and Mary. In New Orleans she attended a modeling school with her sister Willie, and began sewing and designing clothes for herself, family, and friends. She began working at Friedberg’s Uniform Inc. in New Orleans where she met her life-long friend Sam Friedberg, a WWII Veteran.

She moved to Baton Rouge in the 1960s and began working at the Baton Rouge Savings and Loan as a Teller. She completed several banking and business classes and served as the Treasurer of Credit Women International. She retired from her position as a Loan Officer in 1986. Being unimpressed with retirement, she returned to the workforce at the Central Volunteer Fire Department. After 17 years of work at the fire department she retired and spent her last years enjoying time with family, friends, beloved pets, and working in her yard.

She was preceded in death by Parents, Bill Medford Ferguson & Serena Odom Ferguson; Brother, Minor Lee Ferguson; Sisters, Mary Jean Ferguson & Willie Ferguson Miceli; Nieces, Sharon Miceli Long & Geri Shannon McNeese; Nephew, Leonard Bruce Odom; Loving Friend, Samuel Friedberg.

She is survived by Sister, Vivian Odom; Nieces, Jonalyn Miceli Cain (Burl) & Rachel Noelle Schexnayder (Brandon); Nieces and Nephews: Jerry Odom, Brenda Odom Britton (Richard), Bobby Odom, Bonnie Odom Singleton (Tommy), Paul LeBlanc, Dawn LeBlanc, Kevin Odom, Jeannine Odom Powell, and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Burl Cain (Honorary), Jerry Odom, Bobby Odom, Paul LeBlanc, Kevin Odom, Brandon Schexnayder, Matthew Abshire, Robert Long, Michael Moore.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, May 12 from 12:00 pm- 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home with Dr. Jeri Melilli officiating. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
