

"Claire Brown Schexnayder, wife of Charles Adam Schexnayder, Professor Emeritus of LSU, passed away at 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 3, 2017, at St. James Place. She was born on July 14, 1928 in Pointe Coupee Parish and resided in Baton Rouge. She is the daughter of the late Samuel Griffith Brown and Lotte Crochet Brown. She is survived by son, Dr. Michael Charles Schexnayder and wife Charlene Curole Schexnayder, Baton Rouge and daughter, Jacqueline Macmurdo Schneider and husband, Brian Schneider, Lacombe and grandchildren, Christopher James Macmurdo, Charlotte NC, Ross Bailey Macmurdo and wife, Abbi Davis Macmurdo, Lacombe, Laura Schexnayder Boswell and husband, Mason Boswell, Houston TX., Charles Michael Schexnayder, Columbia, SC, Matthew Steven Walker, Baton Rouge and great grandchild, Benjamin Mason Boswell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Schexnayder, daughter, Marie Walker Meeks and husband, Kevin Meeks. Also preceded in death by her siblings Mrs. Walter Morales, Jr., William Edward Brown, Huey Patrick Brown, and Jasper Conrad Brown. She taught school in Terrebonne Parish in the early years of her marriage prior to moving to the Dominican Republic. Upon returning to Baton Rouge, she taught in a business college and later became Director of the High School Neighborhood Youth Program, a federal program designed to help to retain young people in school. After eleven years as Director she became a licensed real estate agent where she worked for eighteen years. She developed C and C World Travel in 1983 and operated it until she moved to Port Antonio, Jamaica with her husband who worked for LSU and the U.S. Agency for International Development. After returning from Jamaica she reopened her travel business and traveled extensively with her husband for many years. She was a Eucharist Minister of the Baton Rouge Diocese and served at St. Joseph Cathedral. She was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Claire was known throughout south Louisiana for her outstanding gumbo and potato salad. Most Sundays you would find her in the kitchen after mass preparing a great feast for her family and friends. She had a wonderful knack for entertaining making all those that visited her home feel welcomed and was an excellent seamstress and card player. Visitation from 9 "“ 11 and mass of Christian burial at noon at St. Aloysius Church on Friday, July 7, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Claire and her family wish to thank the supportive staff and incredible nurses of St. James Place for their continued care and concern through these past few years and all the caregivers that came each day from the Hospice of Baton Rouge.
