On Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother was sent to be with our Lord. She was 78, born June 28, 1932, in New Orleans, and resided in Baton Rouge. For many years, she spent her time as a school crossing guard and loving Sunday school teacher. She had a passion for poetry, family and had a strong love for Christ. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Eugene Sims Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Shauna Sims Jr., and Michael and Cristi Sims; seven grandchildren, Damon Sims, Tessa Sims Mahler, Chase Sims, Zachary Sims, Joshua Sims, Andrew Sims and Katelyn Sims; and three great-grandchildren, Alyse and Kinsey Mahler, and Cole Sims. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Bush; father, Mr. Hedenriech; daughter, Darlene Parker; and grandson, Jamie Parker. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Thursday, Aug. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon.
