Dane was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 78, with his wife Bonnie by his side ready to meet our Lord with total peace of heart.
He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 15, 1948, attended Sacred Heart, Baton Rouge High, and LSU. Dane retired from Dow Chemical.
He attended Manresa Retreat House for over 40 years with his brothers and lifelong friends (John Milazzo and CJ Bonadona). He spearheaded the Baton Rouge High Alumni Association. Dane was a man who treasured the simple joys of life: dancing, listening to live music, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Dane is survived by his beloved dance partner, his wife, Bonnie Theriot D’Armond, and their children: Tracie Porter (David), Paul Messenger, Joey Messenger (Yaima), Jeremy Messenger (Annie), and Courtney Jones (Kasey).
He was an immensely proud grandfather to Hunter Porter (Jessie), Haley Noland (Ethan), Logan Messenger, Suede Messenger, Maggie Messenger, Charlie Messenger, Brady Messenger, Kaden Jones, Kameron Jones, and Kendall Jones.
He was known as “Great Dane” to his great-grandchildren: Remy Porter, Landry Porter, and Ellis Noland.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lance and Candy D’Armond and Donald and Jency D’Armond, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Dane was preceded in death by his parents Virgil Lea and Eunice Theresa D’Armond and great friend, Don Cook, who was a fallen soldier in the Vietnam war. He is now reunited with them and his beloved fur babies Jolie and Lily.
Dane leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, dancing, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving care. Donations in his honor can be made to St Vincent DePaul or Manresa Retreat House
