Dane C. Nielsen

Dane C. Nielsen left this world much too early on July 21st. Dane was a friend to everyone he met, and he meant it — he would help anybody, with anything, and never asked what it was worth to him. His friendship didn’t waver. Once you had it, you had it for good. He gave the kind of hug that could hold a person together, and he gave them freely. He had a giggle that made you smile the second you heard it, whether or not you knew what was funny. Even in his darker hours, he kept a smile for everyone else.

Dane absolutely loved to fish. Anyone who knew him will tell you he could catch fish when nobody else could — and it was true. He once caught one on nothing but a bare hook, which surprised everybody but him. He was also drawn to the night sky and would sit outside for hours picking out constellations. He loved anything with a motor or a set of wheels: bicycles, engines, and Harleys most of all, a love he shared with his late father, Chris. Whatever he got his hands on, he found a way to make it a little better before he was done with it.

Dane is survived by his son, Christian Nielsen of Houma; his sister, Sonja Landry (Paul Frost); and his cousins, Jacob (Jessica) Landry and Ben (Christina, Owen, and Josie) Landry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Nielsen, Sr. and Nellie Nielsen, and his biological father, Thomas “Chris” Nielsen, Jr.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
