

Daniel (Danny) Kent Rester, born in Baton Rouge, LA, August 21, 1945, to Doris and Winston Rester, died on December 1, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Preceded in death by his parents, Danny is survived by his wife, Tammy Holyfield Rester, his brother Barry Bernard Rester (Ginger) and his three children, daughters Danielle Alexandra Rester (Alison), Annie Laurie Thompson (Tommy), son Winston Wesley Rester II, and four grandchildren Trinity Aristotle, Whitman Thompson, Cole Rester and Eliza Rester.
Danny was raised in Baton Rouge, went to Our Lady of Mercy, and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. He attended college at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves during his undergraduate. He graduated LSU with a degree in Marketing. He then moved to New Orleans where he attended Tulane University Law School. He finished Tulane with a law degree 1972. Danny’s hobbies included scuba diving and traveling. After obtaining his private pilot's license and purchasing his own airplane he was able to fly himself and his children on exciting trips and adventures. They visited places such as Jamaica, Mexico, the Bahamas and many other exotic locales. Danny also enjoyed tooling around on his Harley, which led to an Aussie wedding with wife Tammy and an exciting honeymoon riding a motorcycle across the Australian Outback.
With a passion for community well being, Danny sat on the board of the Baton Rouge Food Bank and was a long standing member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club. Through Rotary, he and his brother, Barry, went on a service mission to Belize where they showed those living without clean water how to create water filters. For 40+ years Danny practiced law in several cities across South Louisiana, finally retiring from Adams and Reese in Baton Rouge in 2014.
Visitation for Danny will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 10 at 9:00 am, with services at 10:00, followed by a procession to Greenoaks Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Shelby Lowe, Keith Lowe, Myles Holyfield, Bob Calloway, Ray Halloway, Don O’Rourke, Dick Easterling, Honorary Pallbearers; Pete Profit and Albert Papalardo. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Baton Rouge Food Bank.
