I made you"¦I will carry you and save you."Isaiah 46:4 David Oehler Stanley died peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the Baton Rouge General Hospital's Bluebonnet location. He was born on September 13, 1927, to Edward Dailey and Margaret Oehler Stanley in Carville, LA. He was known by many titles during his 89 years"”patriot, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, colleague, and mentor were among his favorites. After graduation from St. Gabriel High School, he became part of the "greatest generation" enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16. There he served his country during W.W. II as part of the Amphibious Forces assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He engaged in combat on the beaches of many Pacific islands and was awarded the Victory Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star. He considered serving his country in this capacity to be one of his proudest moments. After his return to the states, David attended college and ultimately completed a degree in Accounting from LaSalle University of Chicago. He made Baton Rouge his home and in 1949, married the love of his life, Roberta Covington "Mickey" Stanley, and began a career in the field of accounting and finance. After practicing accounting at the CPA firm of Hawthorn, Weymouth, and Carroll, he entered the financial service industry, eventually becoming President and CEO of Baton Rouge Savings and Loan Association, where he worked for 30 years. During his tenure he was active on both the state and national levels serving in numerous capacities for both the U.S. and Louisiana Leagues of Savings Institutions. David also found time to help his community in various ways, including service as Chairman of the YMCA Metropolitan Board of Directors and as a Director and Treasurer of the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge. After his retirement in 1988, he joined the staff of Ella McCrary Allstate Agency, working part-time there until his death. David and his wife were members of First Baptist Church where he volunteered in the young adult Sunday School class and taught in the Youth Training Union program. In 2000, he joined the Chapel on the Campus. David was an avid gardener, lawn-keeper, fisherman, and hunter in Louisiana's Sportsmen's Paradise, instilling a love for these things in his family through many hours spent outdoors at home and at his False River camp. But he will be best remembered for his love for his family, his friends and neighbors, his country, and the beauty of His Heavenly Father's creation. Though a man of few words, his love shone brightly throughout his life through his many kind acts of service for those he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 50 years; his siblings and their spouses, Mary Jane and Charles "Spooky" Johnson, Gloria and Benjamin Konikoff, and Edward and Lanelle Stanley; his sisters-in-law and their husbands, Willie Pearl and Theodore Sharp, Pauline and M. James "Jimmy" Loker, and Betty and Ferdinand "Ferdy" Ivey; his step grandson, Byron Nicholas FaKouri, and his nephew Benjamin "Larry" Konikoff. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Stanley FaKouri and her husband William Nicholas FaKouri of Baton Rouge, LA; his granddaughter Emily Parsons Hamilton and her husband Kyle, serving with Congo Initiative in Beni, North Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo; his grandson Miles Stanley Parsons and his wife Crista and great granddaughter Angela Grace Parsons, all of Baton Rouge, LA; along with many nieces and nephews, who have comprised a loving extended family throughout his life. The family wishes to thank his personal physicians and nurses who provided excellent care for him over the years, and his wonderful team of caregivers who devotedly attended him, especially during his last months. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, LA from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 22nd. A service to celebrate his life will begin at 1:00 PM, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Kevin McKee. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be his grandson, Miles, and his nephews, Charles Johnson, Charles Konikoff, Jack Hart, Clifton Ivey, Jr., Clyde Williber, and Gary Whitaker.
