Zachary, Louisiana - Dawn Averett Bankston, born October 28, 1971, in Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 53 at Women's Hospital. She graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1989 and was Homecoming Queen her senior year. She worked at John H. Carter with over 10 years of service. Dawn thrived in various hobbies including baking, travelling, hiking, and gardening. She made a friend to any stranger that she met. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Brandon Bankston, and her two children, Brianne and Brennan; her parents, Paul and Phyllis Averett; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelly and Rachael, and Keith and Brandea; and nieces and nephews, Ryleigh, Sydney, Kate, McCall, and Luke; and her fraternal grandmother, Gladys Nezat, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Paul Averett Sr., and maternal grandparents, Helen Raiford and Courtney Raiford.
A visitation for Dawn will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
