Dominick “Sonny” Dinecola, a devoted family man, community member, and veteran, passed away at the age of 82. Born on October 4, 1942, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sonny spent his life as a proud resident of his hometown, contributing to its community and leaving behind a cherished legacy.
A faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Sonny actively participated in the Men’s Club and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, where he dedicated his time to helping those in need. He was also a member of the Pride Farm Improvement Club, reflecting his love of the land and his ties to agriculture.
Sonny served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. After his military service, he built a long and noteworthy career. He was a proud member of the Local 198 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union for 60 years and retired from the State of Louisiana Archives. Always active, Sonny enjoyed fishing, tending to his cattle, working on jigsaw puzzles, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family and friends. Sonny was an avid fan of Western TV shows and movies.
Sonny is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Barbara Hoffpauir Dinecola, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his loving children: Tina Wills (Doug) of Pride, Louisiana; Chris Dinecola (Paula) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and Robin Severio (Bret Behrnes) of Baker, Louisiana. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Anthony (Britnee) Dinecola, Devin (Natalie) Dinecola, Kace’ Severio, Joey (Lynn) Wills, and Leann Wills. Sonny was a proud great-grandfather to Giovanni Dinecola, Nadia Dinecola, Wyatt Dinecola, Joanna Dinecola, and Grady Conrad.
He is also survived by his siblings: Joseph (Rose) Dinecola, Phillip (Nancy) Dinecola, Jake (Judy) Dinecola, Theresa Alleman, Mike (Annette) Dinecola, Connie (Herb) Foremen, and Ronnie (Mitzi) Dinecola and numerous nephews and nieces. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Dinecola, brother-in-law, Bobby Alleman, and his nephew, Brad Alleman.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located at 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A funeral service will follow the visitation, with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6213 Groom Road, Baker, Louisiana.
Pallbearers honoring Sonny’s life will be Anthony and Devin Dinecola, Joey Wills, Ryan and Blaine Pitre, and Blake Smith.
Sonny Dinecola’s life was a testament to service, hard work, and love for family and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
