
A contractor and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Jefferson Manor. He was 78 and a native of Denham Springs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church and the Denham Springs Country Club. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, April 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gerald Wheeler. Interment in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. Donald is survived by his wife, Roxie Kathryn Chambers, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Betty Friedman, of Denham Springs, Nettie Oria and husband Jess, of Toledo, Ohio, and Linda Douglas and husband Byron, of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Lyle Chambers and wife Marion, of Baton Rouge, Charles Chambers and wife Ilse, of Guatemala City, Guatemala, and Wesley Chambers and wife Carol, of Atlanta, Texas; four sons; three stepsons; a stepdaughter; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Shiela Pender. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Florida Boulevard Baptist Church or Life Source Hospice.
