Dorothy O. Ardoin

A native of Krotz Springs and a resident of Baton Rouge, Dorothy Ardoin passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at home surrounded by family. The eldest sister of eight children, her caring, compassion and grace towards family rightly earned her the loving name of "Sis." Her warming wisdom and precious laugh will always be remembered by all of us who shared a cup of coffee and a family story on a Sunday afternoon. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, she gave of herself not only to family, but to community, and to the work of her Lord and Savior. She retired as the director of payroll for LSU and was a member of St. Thomas More Parish. She devoted herself through volunteer work for Inner Wheel, Cajun Clickers and to St. Thomas More. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. "Snook" Ardoin; mother and father, Eve Mae Fitzgerald Ortis and Arthur Ortis; sons, Michael Joseph Ardoin and Donald Gene Ardoin; and brothers, Albert, Arthur, Harris and Louis "L.J." Ortis. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson and her husband, Wendell Johnson; and grandchildren, Chad Michael Ardoin, Robin Reneé Ardoin Bundick and husband Gabe Bundick and Kelly Marie Ardoin; and great-grandchildren, Lily Reneé Bundick and Adeline Mae Bundick. She is also survived by sisters, Leona Ortis Stewart and husband Lloyd, Evelyn Ortis Parker, and Loretta Ortis Courville and husband Bub; many nieces and nephews and all her friends at Sharpstowne. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Jan. 10, was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Decker. Graveside services will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Krotz Springs on Monday at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Brooks and his staff and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their tender care and compassion for Dorothy over the years.
