
A resident of Baton Rouge, Dorothy died Sunday night, Feb. 24, 2008, at her home. She was born in Chicago on Oct. 23, 1945. She received her master's degree from the University of Illinois in 1983. She taught for 22 years at the School of Landscape Architecture at LSU with a focus on design and how landscape influences social behavior. She retired from LSU as an assistant professor. Dorothy was proud to have maintained her license in landscape architecture up until her final days. She was an active member of the University United Methodist Church and the CCC Class, the Woman's Study Group, the Gulf States Quilting Guild and the River City Quilt Guild. Dorothy was also a member of the Council of Educators in Louisiana, the American Society of Landscape Architecture, EDRA, the Rural Sociological Society and the Retired Faculty Club. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Wednesday, Feb. 27, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additional visitation at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, on Thursday from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 22 years, Quentin A.L. Jenkins; and four children: Mark Butterfield and his wife, Malika, of the Maldives; John Butterfield, his wife, Karen, and their sons, Jacob, David and Jason, of Elmhurst, Ill.; Lisa Gianelloni, her husband, Victor, and their sons, Sabin and Jules, of Elmhurst; and Jonathan Jenkins. Her stepdaughters include Karee Valek, her husband, Edward, and their children, Emily, Edward Jr. and Olivia, all of Sarasota, Fla.; and Sonja Hebert, her husband, Roger, and their children, Chase and Andrew, all of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Thomas Herr, of Anacortes, Wash. Preceded in death by her parents, John E. Whitmore and Dorothy F. Whitmore. We would like to thank all of our family and many friends for their prayers, love and support. We especially appreciate the excellent care from our two medical teams: Dr. Jaffer Ajani and his very caring nursing staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Dr. Michael Castine in Baton Rouge.
