A 30-year resident of Baton Rouge, she was born July 14, 1927, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Genevieve Backstrom and Bernard Johnston. She died unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on Sept. 1, 2009. She was 82. She was a devoted wife to James Modeen, who preceded her in death. She was a beloved mother to four children: Mary Modeen and partner Laurence Davies, Carol Yeoman and husband Mike Yeoman, Daniel Modeen and wife Candy Modeen, and Martha Modeen and husband Jeff Standaert. She was grandmother to seven grandchildren: David Yeoman, Steven Yeoman, Genevieve Bright, Katherine Yeoman, Hadley Modeen, Maggie Modeen and Lorna Modeen; and great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren: Ayden Yeoman and Isabella Yeoman. Devoted to her family and an active member of her church, she lived a life of serving God by serving others. Visitation at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
