On April 7, 2012 at 7:20 p.m., Dotty died at her home surrounded by her devoted and loving husband, Bob and caregiver, Cathy Dunn. Dotty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and good friend. Born on December 9, 1925 in New Orleans, Dotty moved with her parents to Baton Rouge at the age of eleven where she attended St. Joseph's Academy. Upon her graduation from SJA in 1942, Dotty received a full four year scholarship to LSU from which she graduated in 1946 with a degree in Secretarial Science in the College of Commerce. During her twenties and throughout her work career Dotty embarked on a number of trips with former classmates, including a summer working in Nantucket as a hotel front desk clerk, several driving trips to New York City that included Broadway shows, and a week on a dude ranch in Colorado. She began her work career in the office of Helen Gordon, Dean of Women at LSU before marrying Bob in 1955 and raising their family in Baton Rouge. Dotty remained active in the community and held leadership roles with many different organizations including Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Advisory Board, Junior League of Baton Rouge where she served as treasurer of River Road Recipes, Camp Fire Girls serving as a group leader for twelve years and later on the Camp Fire Board, and the LSU Book Bazaar. Dotty also spent many hours volunteering at her children's schools, St. Aloysius, St. Joseph's Academy and Catholic High School, as she supported them through their educational experiences. Dotty was an avid reader and a committed member of her book clubs, The Reviewers and Reading Roundtable. Her grandchildren recall numerous special memories of sitting next to her while "Dodo" read to each of them. As a member of Bocage Racquet Club she spent many enjoyable hours playing tennis with her friends, for years with two regular weekly foursomes. She adored fly fishing especially at their camp at False River, where Dotty took her children and friends for countless endless summer days. She also enjoyed many afternoons of Mah Jongg with friends. A detailed planner, Dotty in 1983 shared her passion for travel and culture with her family by orchestrating, beginning one year in advance, a majestic and unforgettable driving trip throughout the Cotswolds of England that culminated in London. By this time Dotty and Bob had enjoyed numerous trips to locations throughout the United States to conventions of the Associated General Contractors, and many years of annual trips with dear longtime friends. Dotty is survived by her husband of 57 years Robert Morgan "Bob" Stuart, her son and daughter-in-law Robert Morgan "Rob" Stuart, Jr. and Donna Cambon Stuart, her daughter Sally Stuart Morgan, son-in-law James Norman Hall, her grandchildren Robert Morgan Stuart, III and wife Danielle Gagnet Stuart, Margaret Landaiche Stuart, John Philipps "Philip" Stuart, Kenneth Lee Morgan, Amelia Marie Morgan, James Stuart Hall, Katherine Morgan Hall and Barrett Christian Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents John Victor Philipps and Juanita Rocquet Philipps, her daughter Katherine Stuart "Kit" Hall and her son-in-law James Kenneth "Kenny" Morgan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 10th at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2021 Stuart Avenue at 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Morgan Stuart, III, John Philipps "Philip" Stuart, James Stuart Hall, Barrett Christian Hall, Kenneth Lee Morgan, and John Albert Stuart, Jr. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dotty's caregiver Cathy Dunn for her loving care of her patient through her last years. The staff with Hospice in His Care gave the best care possible, especially Dotty's nurse Pierre Baker. Special thanks to our friend and doctor, Dr. Joel Silverberg who oversaw Dotty's health needs until she went into hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Academy for the Dorothy Philipps Stuart Family Scholarship. Services under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street.
