Doug was born to Sadie and Stanley Hanesworth on March 11, 1952. He is survived by his older brother Bill Hanesworth, wife Melissa, niece Sadie Hanesworth and his nephew William Douglas Hanesworth. Although he never understood why diehard Tiger fans were living in Arkansas.
After graduating from Lee High School 1970, Doug was a pipe fitter at Exxon, a career that was ill fitted to his larger than life personality. Doug’s joy in life was being an owner in Southdowns Bar. He thrived in the infamous Halloween parties and thousands of Purple Haze drinks served but what he loved most was spending time at Southdown with his friends that became part of his family.
Doug liked four letter words as much as he liked football, golf and girls. You always knew where you stood with Doug. He liked your or he didn’t. He loved being on the river with his friends, posted inappropriate jokes at every chance, and loved who he wanted to love.
He never understood why Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook kept asking him how he felt, and would promptly put him in Facebook jail seconds after he posted his honest – and often quite direct thoughts.
Doug’s stubbornness and passion served him well throughout his life. He did things his way, on his time and as only he could do them. The world was a better place with Doug Hanesworth. He was loved immensely and will be dearly missed.
A visitation for Doug will be held on Saturday, September 7, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA) at 10 am until the memorial service at 11.
