
Douglas Shelby McKenzie died at his home in Baton Rouge on March 1, 2014. He was born in Baton Rouge on September 12, 1962. He is survived by his parents, Shelby and Molly McKenzie; his brother, Charles McKenzie and his wife Elissa; his sister, Leslie McKenzie Porter and her husband, Lance; his cousin, Molly Donalson and five nieces and nephews, McVea McKenzie, Scot McKenzie, Jane Shelby Porter, Charlie McKenzie and Kate Porter; all residents of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Charles and Mignon McVea and cousin, Charles McVea, Jr. and family, all residents of Pascagoula, Mississippi. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Charles and Mildred McVea, and Leslie and Rosalind McKenzie, and his aunt, Jane McVea Donalson, all of Baton Rouge. Doug was a 1980 graduate of University High, and 1985 graduate of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. His love of mountains led him to live in Breckenridge, Colorado for many years, where he was employed by the ski area and owned his own business, Rapid Rentals. In 2000, Doug was the King of the Breckenridge Mardi Gras. In 2001, he returned to Baton Rouge where he owned and operated Coyote Moon Crystals and Gifts on Perkins Road and was active in the Perkins Road Merchants Association. Doug especially enjoyed the family farm in West Feliciana Parish, where he spent as much time as possible and was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Spillman, Louisiana. He also enjoyed travel, especially recent trips with his entire family. Doug loved his family and was a caring and wonderful son, brother and uncle who will be missed by all. His gentle and generous spirit is his legacy for his family and many friends. His funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge on March 10, 2014, with visitation beginning at 9 am until the service in the sanctuary at 11 am.
