
Our much loved father and grandfather, Earl V. Patterson Jr., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006. He was born March 20, 1919, inBurlington, N.C., and grew up there until coming to Baton Rougeafter World War II to work with his uncle, William Hazel Patterson, in road construction. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Visiting at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m.until service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dick Gates. Interment inResthavenGardensof Memory. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lenhard Patterson; daughter, Carolyn Patterson Bradburn; and parents, Earl V. Patterson Sr. and Annie Laura Patterson. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, as well as David Marschall, Joe Toups and Preston Eggers. Earl Jr. graduated from theUniversityofNorth CarolinainChapel Hillin 1940 with a bachelor of science degree in commerce. During World War II, he was an aviator in the Army Air Corps, serving in the Ferry Command, and as a flight instructor until the end of the war. From 1945-1972, he worked with his uncle in road construction as a partner in W.H. Patterson and Co., and from 1974-2000, he worked as the budget officer for the city of Baton Rouge and Parish Council in the city-parish government. In 1958, he served as president of the Louisiana Associated General Contractors; 1959, Louisiana Highway and Heavy Construction Branch; 1970, lifetime national director for Associated General Contractors of America Inc.; and in 1998, lifetime honorary member of the Associated General Contractors of America. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club from 1950 until his death. He was a man dedicated to his family, loyal to his friends, and was fiercely proud of his first home, North Carolina. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Earl Patterson III and wife Laurel, and Dr. Troy Patterson and wife Sheila; and his grandsons, Dr. Craig M. Patterson and wife Cheron, Dr. Connor A. Patterson and wife Margaret, Troy L. Patterson Jr. and Markham D. Bradburn. In addition, he is survived by his granddaughters, Christiane M. Patterson, Katherine C. Bradburn and Margaret Frances Patterson. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. David West and his nurse, Trudy, for their care and compassion during these last years attending to our father's medical needs. We also wish to express our gratitude to his caregivers, Connie Cibulski and Patricia Geismer, for attending to his daily care at home during the last year.
