
Edgar Ratcliffe "Rat" Andersonwas born Sept. 28, 1914, inNatchez, Miss., and passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Dec. 7, 2006. He progressed from elevator operator at the State Capitol to director of state institutions and took early retirement in 1964, when he built Briarwood Golf Club. An avid golfer, he was twice the Baton Rougecity champion, in 1945 and 1950. He was an original member of the Baton Rouge Country Club since its reconstitution in 1946, and was club champion in 1962. He was a charter member of The Baton Rouge Assembly. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 60 years, Eola Blouin McCall in 2004; and his beloved daughter, Sarah Eola "Sherry" Anderson in 2000. He is survived by his son, E. Ratcliffe "Andy" Anderson Jr., M.D., lieutenant general, USAF (Ret); three grandchildren, Melisa M. Caston ofFort Worth, Texas, E. Ratcliffe Anderson III, M.D., major, USAF, MC,Landstuhl, Germany, and Mark M. Anderson of Chicago; and a great-grandson, E. Ratcliffe "Chip" Anderson IV. Visitation at St. George Catholic Church, off Siegen Lane, on Monday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m.until Mass at 11 a.m.Interment in the church cemetery.
