Edgar Allen Barton

Edgar A. “Buddy” Barton went home to Jesus peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, two weeks shy of his 99th birthday. He was born on September 29, 1924, in Pineville LA, & was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. After 40 years of service, he retired from Solvay Chemical in 1991. He was a longtime member of Winbourne Ave. Baptist Church & Jefferson Baptist Church. Edgar is survived by his sons, Kent (Gloria) & Chet (Marcia); grandchildren, Brandon (Cory), Corey (Amie), Benjamin, Adrienne, Garrett; nine great-grandchildren; brother, James (Judy); special friend, Ginger Howard; & a host of other family members. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Leona Ortego Barton; parents, Artie & Stella; sisters, Mildred & Juanita. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 12:30pm until the time of funeral services at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edgar’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
