I must have thought Bubba would live forever because I never took a moment to tell him how much I admired him.  We spent many hours together thanks to the State Capital Group--ever thus!--and I enjoyed every moment, even when we had to deal with unpleasant matters.  He was always accessible, responsive and wise.  Well into his 80s, he still had the soul of an idealistic "Young Turk" who was, first and foremost, a grateful American.  I was blessed to know Bubba.

To the Family of Edgerton 'Bubba' Lewis Henry,
I, Liz Barnes White, from Ruston via Jonesboro, am deeply saddened to learn of Bubba's passing. Bubba wasn't just a devoted politician and champion for the people; he was also a true friend! His kindness, leadership, and dedication enriched the lives of everyone around him. One of my fondest memories of Bubba is of the bus tours we shared across Louisiana during his campaign for Governor--a time filled with inspiring stories, laughter, and a sincere commitment to making a difference.
I also want to share a personal detail so you can recall who I am: Mrs. Frances Henry, Bubba’s beloved wife, taught both our sons, Don Jose’ White and Adrian Todd White in elementary/middle school. This connection has always reminded me of how interconnected our lives are through Bubba’s enduring spirit and genuine care.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, Mrs. Henry and your family, during this difficult time. 
Bubba's legacy lives on in every life he touched, and I am forever grateful for the moments we shared.

My message to you is not A Condolence, but words of love. I say this because I can just remember the good old days "Bubba", Sam Roby and I had during Bubba's Political days, riding the backroads and the dusty roads trying to get Bubba elected Governor. Although, I, James E. Bradford is a black male, which was a danger for him to be associated with back in the 60's. Bubba treated me as a friend, and I will always cherish our friendship. Bubba ws a loving and caring public servant, and probably couldn't get elected in this culture of politics today.

Bubba was a role model for many of us who grew up in Jonesboro during the late '50s and '60s. But Bubba was bigger than a small-town hero. He had vision, a keen sense of justice, and a wit which is a winning combination for a life well lived.
We are all better people for having followed in his footsteps and then gone off in our own direction.

One of the first phone calls I answered as a student intern in the House Governmental Affairs Division nearly 40 years ago was former Speaker E.L. “Bubba” Henry. He started the conversation with a joke—he had quite a sense of humor.  Over the years, he also made it clear how much he valued the nonpartisan, professional staff that he and several of his former legislative colleagues were responsible for establishing, as well the reforms and House Rules he and his colleagues adopted for notice and public hearings and comment.  He was a treasure for and of the state and her people.  My condolences to his family and loved ones and hope that your memories of Bubba are a comfort and blessing always.
