Edmund M. Bacon Sr., 75, a resident of Baton Rouge, was born into a family of 10 children in Simmesport on March 17, 1935, and departed this life on Friday, March 19, 2010, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Monday, March 22, from noon until funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Angela Bacon Miller and her husband, Kirk, of Prairieville; a son, Edmund M. Bacon Jr., of Baton Rouge; a sister, Mary Lee Chatelain; and two granddaughters, Amy and Emily Miller. Preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Elmyr Bacon; wife, Lydia Barrere Bacon; an infant grandson, Stephen Ross Miller; and eight of his brothers and sisters. After graduating high school in 1953, Edmund served in the U.S. Air Force as a Russian language interceptor operator. He then returned home, married Lydia Barrere in 1958, and graduated from LSU. His first job was with the F.D.A. as a food inspector, until he became a pharmaceutical sales rep for Smith, Kline & French (which is now, Glaxo Smith Kline) for 25 years. After his retirement, he and his wife Lydia designed and built a beautiful home on a lake in White Oak Landing which they both enjoyed. He was a loving grandfather to his two granddaughters whom he cherished very much. After his beloved wife of 44 years passed away in 2003, and after a 6-year battle with AlzheimerÕs, he joined her and his Lord.
