Edna JoAnn Chiasson

peacefully at her home on February 8, 2018 at age 80.

A native of Groves, TX, JoAnn was born to Inez and Claude Berwick on

September 14, 1937. She was a graduate of Port Neches High School and

later joined the Catholic religious order Sisters of Charity of the

Incarnate Word in Houston, TX. She later left the convent and married

Ashton L. Chiasson, Jr.; they had five children.

JoAnn worked as an operating room nurse, nursing educator, home health

nurse, and health care administrator. From 1970 to 1979 she was a

Director of Nursing at Capitol Home Health in Baton Rouge until her

election as President of the reorganized company, serving through year

2000. Over her tenure, the company expanded to 15 offices, serving 34

parishes.

A devout Catholic and longtime member of Immaculate Conception

Catholic Church in Denham Springs, LA, JoAnn lived a life of

self-sacrifice, compassion and service to others in her various roles.

Her beautiful smile and kind ways were a blessing to all, and she will

be missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ashton L. Chiasson, Jr.;

parents, Inez M. Berwick Landry and Claude H. Berwick; and brother,

Claude Ray Berwick.

Survivors include her five children: Joan M. Chiasson and Claude H.

Chiasson of Walker, LA; John E. Chiasson and wife Jenny of Pensacola,

FL; Mrs. Jennifer Ann Coward and husband James of Friendswood, TX; and

Christopher P. Chiasson of Houma, LA. There are 3 surviving

grandchildren: Skyler, Madeleine, and Caleb.

Visitation is Friday, February 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate

Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, followed by the Mass of

Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. with Burial Rite at 1:00 p.m. at

Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. Reception immediately

following. Thank you to St. Joseph Hospice staff, especially her nurse

Lisa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities

of the Diocese of Baton Rouge or the Alzheimer's Association of the
