Effie Mae LaFargue, 97, was born in Newnan, Georgia, on September 12, 1924. She passed away on December 16, 2021, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Effie graduated from Newnan High School in 1941 and agreed to stay in Newnan to help and work in the family’s retail store, as many of their employees left to serve our country in WWII. Through that experience she gained a great sense of fashion and knowledge of the business world. During the course of her life, Effie was an avid bridge player and an accomplished artist, seamstress, and piano player, as well as a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and dedicated mother to all three of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Terry LaFargue of Covington; granddaughter, Taylor LaFargue of Dallas, TX; son, Tommy LaFargue of Baton Rouge; grandson, Morgan LaFargue and granddaughter, Summer Paris LaFargue of Baton Rouge; daughter, Lynn Hopper (Jarrell) of Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Courtney Greer of Maurepas; great granddaughter, Madison Jewell and great grandson, Michael Jewell of Fordoche; grandson, Jason Greer (Nikki) and great grandson, Brayden Greer of Baton Rouge; grandson, John Hopper (Kelsey) and great grandson, Hudson of Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Katie Cascio (Brad) and great grandchildren, Olivia, Sam, and Bennie, of Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley A. LaFargue; parents, Joe and Alice Carrasco; brother and sister-in-law, Enrico and Rea Carrasco; sister and brother-in-law, Totsie and Paul McKnight; and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Lee Carrasco. A visitation for Effie will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9 am until service at 10. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial park. Pallbearers will be Terry LaFargue, Tommy LaFargue, Jarrell Hopper, and John Hopper, and honorary pallbearers will be Brad Cascio, Ray McKnight, Carl McKnight and Jim McKnight.
