Eileen was born in England, but had made the U.S. her home for over 40 years.
When she first moved to the U.S. Eileen lived in New Jersey and it was while living there that she fulfilled her great ambition to learn to drive trucks. However, this career did not last long after she was hijacked and held hostage for a cargo of coffee.
It was shortly after this incident that she met Danny in New Jersey and they moved to Baton Rouge where she lived for over 25 years. She worked for many years at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System. She worked tirelessly in the Risk Management Department and was responsible for maintaining insurance coverages for the Health System. She always arranged her personal schedule to meet the needs of the department and was known to work long hours just to get the job done in a continually expanding healthcare system.
Eileen loved scouring garage sales, estate sales, and charity shops for “treasures,” and was particularly happy when she found something she thought a friend or relative may like. She loved trains and spent many hours on her visits to the U.K. traveling and exploring by train and other forms of public transport. She would always listen for the train which ran not too far from the office each and every afternoon.
Her greatest love, however, was her cats. Any cat that found itself in Eileen’s care had landed on its feet!
Always looking at the world through rose tinted glasses, Eileen was a hugely generous and thoughtful person and a loyal friend.
She was much loved and will be enormously missed by her family, colleagues, and friends. Left to treasure her memory are her two sisters, Christine Turner (Les) and Virginia Claridge (Robin) and a brother, Frederick (Linda) and other family in England.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at Jefferson Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
