Elaine Jolissaint Aubin, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, La., passed away on October 29, 2026, at her home at the age of 100. After graduating from St Joseph Academy, she worked for the State of Louisiana, then ExxonMobil Co before meeting her husband, Bill.
A child of the depression, Elaine was ever frugal and saved the funds used to open Highland Hardware & Garden Center with her partners Pie & Mary Ada Theriot, and husband Bill. After Bill’s retirement, she helped Bill in his many church activities and fished with him at Point Au Chen and Grand Isle.
Mom never met a stranger, was always happy, welcoming, and wanted people to come back to visit. She wanted to know everything about them, loved life, and had the gift to laugh at herself. Elaine always enjoyed being with her immediate and extended family, be it a small gathering on their patio or a large BBQ or crawfish boil at Pie and Mary Ada’s.
Her unwavering Faith in God and devotion to the Rosary was evident in every aspect of her life. Prayer was her go-to for every problem in her life and that of her family and friends.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Mary Catherine (Kay) Aubin Lassiter & husband Curt of Little Rock; two sons, Don Aubin and wife Andrea of Houston, and Lane Aubin and companion Mary Anne Maher of Baton Rouge and five grandchildren, Sarah Lassiter, Emma Lassiter, Jillian Aubin, Michael Aubin, and Chris (Michelle) Aubin. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, John Edward Jolissaint Sr and Delia Landry Jolissaint; three sisters, Emily Fryou, Catherine Barthel, and Mary Ada Theriot and six brothers, Shirley, Ed, Murray, James, John, and Dub.
Visitation will be held at St Jude Catholic Church from 9 to 10 am Saturday November 7th, followed by Mass. Burial will be conducted at St. George Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice. The entire family would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to their wonderful caregivers, the staff at Baton Rouge Hospice, and the neighbors, friends, and all who have provided so much support to the family in caring for Elaine.
