

Thomas, Elaine Marie deVergesElaine Marie deVerges Thomas passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born in New Orleans on June 11, 1924. She was a resident of Covington, LA for 22 years and relocated to Baton Rouge in 2014. Elaine was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-friend. She loved visiting with people and enjoyed her Canasta group for over 55 years. She was a devoted Catholic and was a member of St. Aloysius Parish in Baton Rouge. Her greatest desire was for all her family and friends to know the love of Jesus and his mother Mary. After her husband's death, Elaine moved to Southside Gardens Retirement Community in Baton Rouge, and developed many new friendships. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff at Southside Gardens and Care Incorporated for the attention given to Elaine. In her final days, she was well cared for by Dr. Gerald Barber, the nurses and staff of Hospice of Baton Rouge's Butterfly Wing. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years Robert Moret Thomas; her parents, Leila M. Bozonier deVerges and Edward Joseph deVerges, Sr.; her brother Edward Joseph deVerges, Jr., and her sisters Beverly deVerges DeSonier and Leila deVerges Schafer. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her children Robert M. Thomas, Jr. (wife Annette) of Covington, LA, Leila Ann Thomas Dragon (husband David) of Baton Rouge, LA, Scott G. Thomas (wife Mary) of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren Angelique Thomas Johnson, Rachel Thomas Uribe, David Robert Thomas, Christie Marie Dragon, Kevin Patrick Dragon, Bradley John Thomas, Andrew Dall Thomas, Sarah Marie Thomas, and Aimee Lynn Thomas; 4 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 21, 2016 Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church (1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471) from 12 noon until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm. Entombment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that masses or donations be made to St. Joseph's Abbey (75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457).
