(Gish, Armshaw)
Betty Staub, our Mama and our Grandma Betty went to heaven to be with our Daddy, Patrick D. Staub, her family and her friends on November 21, 2024. Mama was born to John A. and Elizabeth J. Flores in New Orleans on December 19, 1933, where she was raised. When Mama was 22, she married Daddy. On that day she received a bonus mom and dad, Martin and Isthma Staub. Mama and Daddy had 2 children in New Orleans, Myeve Staub Gish (Greg) and Sam Staub (Teresa) and 3 more children in Baton Rouge, Josh Staub (Josef), Liza Staub Armshaw (Mike) and John FK Staub (Sonia). Mom was always on board with Daddy’s adventures like our year escapade in California so Daddy could finish his master’s degree. She was the last of our neighborhood moms. Mama was a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, knitter and crocheter. Mama loved a good time, especially a crawfish boil with a cold Bud Light. But most of all, she was a kind and compassionate caregiver and friend. When we were sick or feeling low, she was there. She and Daddy raised us to be open-minded and accepting of others including people we did not know. We hope we made them proud. Additionally, Mama was a Mental Health Warrior. She showed her strength through her work with her care providers (Debbie Sandifer, LMSW and Christy Perry, DNP, PMHNP) to keep her mind and spirit healthy.
Mama is survived by her children and her grandchildren: Nicholas Gish, Matthew Gish (Annie), Hanna Staub-Herzog (Stephen), Camille Staub-Morgan (Tim), J. Lauren Armshaw, Katie Armshaw Bailie (Richard), Maggie Armshaw, John P. Staub, Pablo Staub, 1 great granddaughter Violet Bailie, her God Child Susan Hankel, her niece Deborah Buchier and nephew Arthur Tribou. She is also survived by her dear friend Loretta White. Mama was welcomed to heaven by Daddy, her mom and dad, her siblings Billy Flores, Claire Tribou, June Porche, and Jim Flores and her dear friends Marion and Hal Dyess.
We would like to thank the incredible staff at Woman’s Hospital. In such a trying time you all were the warm glow of human compassion. To the incredible staff at Southside Gardens Assisted Living who also took great care of Mama for the last five years, thank you. Mama and Daddy were members of Christ the King and St. Aloysius.
Services for Mama will be Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Christ the King on the LSU Campus. Visiting with the family will begin at 10:00 am and Mass begins at 11:00. Interment will be Monday, December 16th at noon, at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.
