A boat enthusiast and sports fan passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the age of 80. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Prairieville. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 5 PM until 9 PM and will resume on Monday, April 23, 2012, from 9 AM until religious service at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his long time friend, Juanita Travasos; son, Bill Carpenter and wife, Lori; sister, Aunnie Lee Braud; grandchildren, Justin and Jason Carpenter, Stefani Biggerstaff, and Bubba Ott; nieces, Saundra Bender and Cindy Drew; nephews, Robert McIntire and Ronnie Braud; and great nephews, Nathan and Derek Shirey. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorestine Johnson; former wife, Doris Mae Johnson; five brothers, Norman, Murphy, Oscar, Elliot, and Larry; and four sisters, Lillie, Betsy, Clothilde, and Gertie. He was a lifetime member of the Baton Rouge Boat Club and a member of the six man football team at Dutchtown High School.
