
Elmer B. Litchfield, a native of Meridian, Miss., and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Saturday, Aug 2, 2008. He was 81. He retired from the FBI in 1979, worked for the Louisiana State Commission on Law Enforcement and was elected sheriff of East Baton Rouge Parish in 1983 from which he also retired. Mr. Litchfield served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Florida Boulevard Baptist Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Martin W. Corie. Burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marla Litchfield Steepleton and Patrick Steepleton; son and daughter-in-law, Gary S. and Kim Litchfield; and five grandsons, Michael, Christopher and Jake Steepleton and Ryan and Josh Litchfield. Preceded in death by his wife, Margery E. Litchfield; sister, Mabel Serrian; and brother, Luther Litchfield. Mr. Litchfield was a 1950 graduate of the University of Mississippi and served on numerous boards and commissions on law enforcement.
