A longtime resident of Baton Rouge and native of Iola, KS, she died Tuesday, January 08, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 87 and the President of Zachary Taylor VFW Post 3784 Auxiliary. She was currently serving the Ladies Auxiliary Department of Louisiana VFW as the VAVS Deputy for the VA Baton Rouge Clinic where she volunteered over 25 years. She was a devoted volunteer for the Jackson War Veterans Home for countless years. She is a Past Auxiliary District President for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a Past Grand President of the Cooties. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary memorial service at 7 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a son, Rene’ Joseph Simon, Jr. and wife Sandra; a daughter, Connie Simon Fauver and husband Rick; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Michael, Raymond Mark, Dustin Stuart, and Ryan Joseph Simon; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Jordan, John Michael, Chase and Payton Simon; a great-great-grandson, Joshua Fox Simon; three step-daughters, Marcia Simmons Balcom, Lorry Simmons Trotter and husband Bill, and Melanie Simmons Cormier and husband Terry; seven step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her first husband, Rene’ Joseph Simon, Sr.; second husband, William Simmons, father and mother, Willie and Gertie Jobe; and step-grandchildren, John Evan “J.J.” Trotter and Jessica Annette Lee. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Mark, Dustin, and Ryan Simon, Trevor Cormier, and Tim Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons and great-granddaughter. She was of Methodist faith.
