Elvira Barone Fortier died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at St. Clare Nursing Home at age 91. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Fortier; and her siblings, Lorraine Barone Ferina, Carmelo Barone, Theckla Barone Bouterie and Guy Barone Sr. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Lawrence Bouterie Sr.; and nieces and nephews, Billie Lou Douglas, Theckla Myers, Lawrence Bouterie Jr., Rebecca Bouterie Harmon, Guy Barone Jr. and Alicia Barone Rand. Known to family and friends as Aunt Vera, she was an inspiration and role model and brought happiness to all who knew her. She was born and lived in New Orleans all but the last decade of her life. There will be a recitation of the holy rosary and a Catholic Mass at St. Francis Chapel, Ollie Steele Burden Manor, on Tuesday, March 11, starting at 10:15 a.m. followed by interment in St. Roch II Cemetery in New Orleans at 1 p.m. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., is in charge of arrangements.
