Emily G. Richard, 90, was born in Napoleonville, LA, on September 28th, 1930. She was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and passed away while residing at St. James Place Nursing Care on August 9th, 2021. Emily graduated from Napoleonville High in 1948, received her BA in education in 1952, and earned her master’s degree in 1968. A woman of many talents and interests, she was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus and St. Louis King of France Catholic Churches, belonged to Allons Danser Dance Club, participated in square dancing in and around Louisiana, joined the Cajun Clickers Computer Club, and dazzled children of all ages as "Bizzy the Clown". She also introduced thousands to “Boxcar Children” through her 34 years as a librarian with the EBR school district, most of which were spent at Bellingrath Hills Elementary. She loved reading and encouraging children to read. The library was Emily’s passion. But her family was her life. She raised her sons according to God’s laws and taught life lessons through consequences. Emily is survived by her three sons, Carl Jr. (Bucky) and his wife Tonya of Denham Springs, Gary of Central, and James and his wife Nola of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Lauren Monoghan (James), Brian Richard (Courtney), Claire Clouatre (Ryan), Danny Richard, and Jamie McKnight (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Taylor Richard, Andrew Richard, Dylan Clouatre, William Storms, Olivia Monaghan, Luke Monaghan, and Blaine McKnight. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Carl A. Richard Sr; parents Edward J. and Julia (Marquette) Guedry; sister, Alice Dugas; brothers, Edward Guedry Jr, Albert Guedry, and Leonard Guedry. A wake will be held for Emily on Sunday, August 15th, from 6-8 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (11000 Florida Blvd). A viewing will be held at St. Alphonsus Church on Monday, August 16 at 10:30 am, followed by Mass at noon. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, and a reception will commence after. Pallbearers are Brian Richard, Andrew Richard, Danny Richard, Andrew McKnight, Ryan Clouatre, and Paul Guedry. Honorary pallbearers are James Monaghan and Neil Guedry. Donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area in Emily’s name to honor her. Many thanks to the caregivers and staff at St. James Place for their years of caring.
