Ernest Feierabend died peacefully at his home on Wed., July 24th at 1:58 PM at the age of 94 ½. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge area. Ernest was born on January 16, 1919, in rural Nesom, LA, with his father acting as midwife. He is survived by his devoted wife for almost 69 years, Lula Sullivan Feierabend of Baton Rouge, two sons, Ernie and wife Kathy Feierabend of Slaughter, LA, and Jerry and wife Carmen Feierabend of Frisco, TX, one granddaughter, Heather Feierabend Owens of Baton Rouge, and three grandsons, Jerry II and wife Lori Feierabend of Dallas, Jason and wife Lindsey Feierabend of Norman, OK, and Jonathan Feierabend of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by three great-granddaughters, Varland Owens, Ava and Madelyn Feierabend, three great-grandsons, Harrison Owens and Caden and John Feierabend, a step granddaughter Paula Gordon and step great granddaughter Brittani Finch and numerous nieces, nephews and one cousin, Pauline F. Warm. Ernest was preceded in death by his only beloved daughter, Judith Ann Feierabend in 2009, parents, August C. Sr. and Gertrude Treuter Feierabend of Clinton, grandparents, Carl A. and Marie Schaefer Feierabend who settled in Clinton after immigrating from Christburg, E. Prussia, and Richard O. and Anna Reiter Trueter who settled in New Orleans after immigrating from Aldenburg, Germany, and a daughter-in-law, Emmilee Grodon Feierabend of Eva, LA. He was also preceded in death by all of his siblings; a brother, August C. Feierabend Jr., and two sisters, Marie F. Brian and Louise F. Schmidt McQuirter, all of Clinton. The family wishes to thank Kathy Feierabend, Beatrice Causey, Olie Wilcox, Loretta Bailey, Ophelia Allen, Brandi Whiten and the nurses and therapists of Feliciana Home Health and Hospice in his care for all their kindness and support. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, July 26th at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 to 12:00 PM with religious services to follow in Greenoaks Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Stan Clark. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park with his sons, grandsons and nephews as pallbearers. Ernest graduated from Bluff Creek High School in East Feliciana Parish in 1936. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, LA, all his life and was a member since 1933. He was married there September 27th, 1944. Starting in May, 1941, and during World War II, he was one of many subcontractors building Camp Van Dorn for the U.S. Army in Centreville, MS. After completion of construction, he continued to work at the base for the Army Services Command in the Combined Maintenance Shops repairing tanks and armored personnel carriers. In 1944 he joined the Baton Rouge Ethyl Corp. plant and worked the in the tetraethyl lead area as a pipe fitter for over 38 years until his retirement in December 1983. He was a blessing, a model person, whose love and sacrifice knew no bounds. He was more than a father and husband he was also a best friend to his children. He taught Christian values and always put his family first. He's been a wonderful blessing to his children and wife and he's loved and will be missed so very much. He lived a long and fruitful life and witnessed many incredible changes and had many challenges during his lifetime. His enduring faith can be summarized in the last phrase of his favorite scripture, one he recited many times, the 23rd Psalm:"…and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
