
Estelle Louise Jeffries McDaniel passed away at her Baton Rouge home on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, surrounded by family. She was 89, born in Colfax on Oct. 23, 1918. Estelle retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Verner and Callie Jeffries; brothers, David, Verner and Edward; sister, Annie; husband, Frank McDaniel; son, Johnnie "Dickie" Dixon; and grandson, Guy Dauphin Jr. Estelle is survived by children Pat Rivett, Joseph Dixon, James Dixon, Margaret Rojas, Peggy Hampton, Janet Perello, Jill McDaniel, Terri Cabler, Fran Bonck, and a grandchild she raised, Chris McDaniel. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jewell Yankovich and Edith O'Neal; and a brother, John Lynn Jeffries. Estelle devoted her talents to Threads of Love and was a former member of USPWU Auxiliary. She was a skilled seamstress who excelled in making beautiful gifts from the heart. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, Feb. 22, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes Saturday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. until chapel service at 1 p.m. Interment in Roselawn Cemetery. Estelle will be deeply missed by all she has touched. "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."
