
1926-2012. Eugene Bartolett Johnson died at home on Sunday, March 4, 2012. He was the son of Harry C. and Isabella Bartolett Johnstone Johnson. Bart, as he was called, was born in Clinton, Iowa on March 10, 1926. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geneva Richard Johnson. Bart served in the United States and Italy in WW II. After his discharge, he received a BS and an MS from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Prior to retirement he held a variety of positions but liked best his service as a counselor in a community college and as a Rehabilitation Counselor for patients with severe disabilities. He is, also, survived by his sisters-in-law: Sylvia Richard Mayeux, Jeanette Richard Kruger, Anahuac, TX, and Margery M. Johnson, Clinton, IA, and two special people who adopted him: Joseph H. Patin, Jr. from Baton Rouge and Vi Brown, Alameda, CA. His nieces and nephews who lovingly called him "Uncle Bart " include Kay Johnson Spitler, Donna Johnson Wagemester, Vicki Lee Johnson, Lori Ann Johnson, and Brian Johnson all from Clinton, Iowa; Lady Richard Lester, Mobile, AL, Genie Richard Blackwell, Winston-Salem, NC, Edmond J. Richard, Jr., Donna M. Mayeux, Camille M. Bercier, and Paul Garrett Mayeux from Baton Rouge, Clay J. Mayeux, William Mayeux, Jim Mayeux, and Peter Mayeux from the Alexandria area; Joseph Mayeux from Hoover, AL, John Mayeux from Washington, PA; M. Richard Kruger, Seabreeze, TX, Victor A. Kruger, Baytown, TX, and Reta Kruger Etie, Beaumont, Tx. In addition, he has numerous grandnieces and grandnephews and their children, who were precious additions to his family. Bart had many friends from around the world. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, and took cruises that allowed them to visit many of the Carribean Islands. Visitation is scheduled at St. Aloysius Catholic Church for Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will be in Port Hudson Military Cemetery following the Mass. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial offerings be considered for the Carstens, Fields, Franques, Richard Scholarship Fund, in care of David Comeaux, College of Education, University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 104 University Circle, Lafayette, LA 70504.
