Eveline Marie Rousseau Alleman died in Georgia on 25 February 2024, just days after celebrating her 97th birthday on Mardi Gras day when she was the last to leave her community’s party. She was born in Paincourtville, Louisiana on 13 February 1927, the first-born of Roy J. Rousseau, Sr. and Agnes Blanchard Rousseau. After marrying Harding Joseph Alleman in 1947, Eveline became a resident of Baton Rouge where she lived for more than 60 years. After a stroke in 2015, she moved to Decatur, Georgia to be closer to family. During her entire life, she served community. She worked in the surgical and recovery units at Our Lady of The Lake (OLOL) Regional Medical Center for decades. She was a volunteer, in many capacities, for the OLOL Auxiliary, St Gerard Majella Catholic Church, Girls and Boy Scouts of America, Louisiana Concert Ballet, Friendship Force, Hi-Lo Camping Club, Woods and Waters, and many more. She cooked meals for new mothers, ill friends, and grieving families. She enjoyed Bourrée games and crossword puzzles with friends and neighbors, being part of the “Beauty Queens” at Margie Moran’s Beauty Shop, visiting local casinos, and anything LSU. She was the “Mayor of Montclair”, her Decatur assisted living home. She was immensely proud of her Acadian heritage and kept the étouffées, creoles, and gumbos rolling off the stove. She was a mother, grandmother, godmother, adopted mother, aunt, cousin, friend, and confidant to so many. She is survived by a son, Mark Alleman; two daughters, Susan Alleman Hutchinson and her husband John, and Mary Alleman; a daughter in law, Charlotte Kent Alleman; five grandchildren, Brian and Carole Hutchinson, and Stephen, Joey, and Anna Kent; and two brothers, Stephen and Irwin Rousseau. She was preceded in death by her dear friend and husband, of 64 years, Harding; her son, Harding Joseph Alleman, Jr.; her parents Roy and Agnes Blanchard Rousseau; three brothers Eric, Roy, and Roger Rousseau; and two sisters Adele Rousseau and Agnes Rousseau Hymel. Visitation will be at St Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Road, on 1 March 2024 from 10am until a Catholic mass at noon. Interment will follow mass at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St Gerard Majella Catholic Church, Charlie’s Place Activity and Respite Centers, Our Lady of the Lake Health System Foundation, St Elizabeth Catholic Church (Paincourtville), or a charity of choice. The family wishes to thank the caregivers who lovingly cared for Eveline during her residence at Montclair and the numerous clinicians who kept her fit and well during her years in Baton Rouge and Decatur.
