

Evelyn Kuyrkendall (née Cheramie), 72, passed away on January 8, 2022 after complications from a colectomy (total colon removal). Evelyn was born and raised in Lafourche Parish to Hector and Alma Cheramie. She loved seafood, the Saints/LSU, friends and family, Mardi Gras, and Elvis. Evelyn graduated from Louisiana School for the Deaf in 1968 and went on to be in one of the first groups of deaf students to attend Delgado Community College. As a licensed florist by trade, she owned a flower shop in Golden Meadow and curated floral designs for over 25 years. Evelyn retired after 30 years as a state employee in the dormitory program at Louisiana School for the Deaf. She always enjoyed working with and caring for the countless students throughout her long career. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Archie Kuyrkendall, her parents, sister, stepson, and her four favorite schnauzers. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Kuyrkendall, six step-grandchildren, five nieces, stepdaughter and numerous cousins. A visitation will be from 12p – 2p, Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. A graveside service for family to follow. The family requests that masks be worn during the visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn Kuyrkendall, to the Louisiana School for the Deaf Foundation, 2888 Brightside Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70820, are appreciated; however, flowers may also be sent to Greenoaks Funeral Home.
